“Hi Phil, me and my fiance are getting married in Isla Mujeres, Mexico and we’d love you to join us and shoot it, whatcha think?” “Um, yes please?” This was one of the best phone calls I’d received in a long time. Not only was I about to shoot my first destination wedding but I was going to shoot a 4 day Cinco De Mayo extravaganza. Kate and Mike did it big. The first day they partied on the roof of their Ixchel Beach Hotel penthouse and then headed to beach front restaurant La Luna they rented out for the night. The next day was even more perfect, a 3 hour boat party on a giant catamaran followed by another amazing dinner. Then the wedding day came, everything planned absolutely perfectly, timing the ceremony at the most gorgeous part of the day, followed by the best reception dance party I’d been to thus far. I think this was the first wedding I shot where the only time people left the dance floor was to re-fuel on more booze. Hardcore dancing at it’s best. Spending four days with a couple allows you to really get to know them. Kate and Mike are pure magic. So full of energy, surrounded by friends and family who feed off of that powerful radiance, I think it definitely shows in the images. Kate and Mike asked me to shoot a little video as well, so inbetween taking stills I captured little moments to put together a little highlight reel, check it at the bottom of the post. Enjoy.
